Athletics is very accessible and is a popular sport for people who are blind or partially sighted. With a variety of track and field events to choose from, there are opportunities to suit everyone.
Metro Blind Sport host an Annual Metro Athletics Open, which remains the number one event for blind and partially sighted athletes in the region, regardless of experience. The event is open to everyone, with a comprehensive track and field programme to choose from.

METRO ATHLETICS OPEN

The Annual Metro Athletics Open is held in June each year and is the highlight of the Metro calendar. It is the number one event in the UK for people who are blind or partially sighted. It is open to everyone, regardless of experience, from juniors to veteran athletes, and from complete beginners to Paralympians. We offer a comprehensive track and field programme ranging from the 60m sprint to 5,000m and a variety of field events including the high jump, long jump, shot put, discus and javelin. Run in accordance with UK Athletics and International Blind Sports Association’s rules, by a team of qualified officials, the event is a great day out for families and many new friendships are forged.

The event is held in June each year at the Mile End Stadium, 190 Burdett Road, London E3 4HL
