Metro Blind Sport had a great evening at the Canary Wharf Group Sports Personality of the Year Awards yesterday.
It was fantastic for the Metro Team to be able to support our members Eric Gallagher and Masuma Ali at this year’s awards, both of which were totally deserved!
Eric was there to receive an award for voluntary commitment! Eric a very talented bowler has been our bowls sports lead since 1994 and has raised over £51 thousand via station collections every year and that has enabled many more blind and partially sighted people to find out about and try the many sports available.
Masuma Ali received a Peter Wade Special Award for special achievements. For many reasons, for her try anything attitude, love of high adrenaline physical activities, tennis skills and more recently by being the first blind person to complete the 50k peak district challenge. Masuma gave a great naturally inspiring speech, seemingly effortlessly! Well done. Congratulations to you both!

Sorry for the wobbly video Eric, I must remember not to clap and WooT while trying to record video!
Thanks also to the Canary Wharf Group for having these awards each year, This is an excellent example of businesses working in the community who provide not only financial funding but also practical support which has made such a positive impact on the area and local community groups.
