Chair Yoga Session 1

“Good morning or afternoon whatever time of day is with you and welcome to this little chair yoga session. So, my name is Claire from Claire Miller Yoga and I will be taking you through this gentle practice this morning.

So this is our first session so all you need today, is just something to sit on whether it’s a  dining chair, a sofa, you can sit on the floor, whatever works for you.”  Claire Miller

Each class will begin & end with focus on your breath , leaving you with a sense of lightness. Claire will give clear & descriptive instructions for each movement,  so you  can relax and enjoy your class.

Claire is a highly qualified fitness & yoga teacher, who became visually impaired a few years ago & truly believes that yoga is for all.

Metro 2021 Update & Online Activity!

“Happy New Year to you all. I hope that you all managed to have an enjoyable break over the Christmas period.

The news from the Prime Minister earlier this week was not what we were hoping for at the start of 2021. However, I can completely understand the decision in tackling the recent increases in cases of the coronavirus pandemic.

With cases at such high levels and sports and leisure facilities closed, sadly it means that we will not be able to deliver face to face sporting activity for the foreseeable future. It is clearly disappointing as we had hoped to restart many of our regular activities and commence new activities from this month. We will have to remain patient for the time being and restart these activities when it is safe to do so and when restrictions are lifted.

In the meantime, we remain committed to delivering online activity where we can and directing members to the fantastic accessible online resources that have been created by others. ”

Chair Yoga

At the end of last year, we released our first online Chair Yoga session with Claire Miller. Session 2 and 3 have since been released and all are available on our YouTube page. https://blindsport.uk/ChairYoga

 

Visually Impaired Virtual Exercise classes

Join  the FREE virtual exercise classes hosted by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation Health and Wellbeing coaches. We will be running weekly exercise classes exploring different types of training including:

  • Weights training – using light weights (dumbbells, water bottles, tins, books etc)
  • Calorie Burning Interval Classes
  • Core Blaster
  • Flexibility and Stability training – Promoting better balance, coordination and reducing the risk of injury
  • Recovery and mindfulness techniques

Sessions take place on Zoom virtual video platform on Wednesday’s at 2 pm

Get Yourself Active at Home

The new ‘Get Yourself Active at Home’ timetable is now available, and videos will be released in January on to their new YouTube channel https://blindsport.uk/GYAYoutube These pre-recorded videos are designed to support disabled people and people with long term health conditions to be active at home. The timetable includes four series all led by different trainers and involving a variety of different activities that can be carried out from the comfort of your home.

Online Tennis Coaching

Our online Tennis Coaching continues. The sessions will occur every other week on a Wednesday and Friday from 6 pm – 7 pm. The sessions will be led by Mark Bullock and will include a session for our B1 players on the Wednesday evenings and for our B2-B5 players on the Friday evenings. Links to Zoom sessions are distributed to players via WhatsApp. If you want to join the tennis WhatsApp groups then please contact Charlie Raven.  email: charlie.raven@metroblindsport.org or call 07956292046

The dates for the sessions are as follows:

  • Wednesday 13th January (for B1’s)
  • Friday 15th January (for B2 -B5)
  • Wednesday 27th January (for B1’s)

  • Wednesday 10th February (for B1’s)
  • Friday 12th February (for B2 -B5)
  • Wednesday 24th February (for B1’s)
  • Friday 26th February (for B2 -B5)

You will need a tennis racket and a VI tennis ball to take part. If you need a racket or a ball, then please let me know and we can provide them for you without charge.

British Blind Sport

British Blind Sport have a suite of online audio described classes for people to attend. These include some audio-led workouts, covering a wide range of activities such as Yoga, Pilates, HIIT, Boxercise and Strength. LTA: Disability Tennis Competitions 2021 Update

As you can imagine with varying restrictions across the UK at the moment the LTA have found it difficult to finalise a competition calendar for 2021. Understandably many venues don’t want to commit to any events early in the year due to uncertainties, so you will notice most events start a little later than usual.

Below are the events booked in so far, more dates will be added in time. All dates are provisional and are subject to change depending on lockdown restrictions in 2021.

To celebrate the #BeInclusive theme in The Great British Week of Sport, Access Sport are hosting ‘Try-Day Friday’ packed full of your favourite sports and activities!

Event Details:

  • Date: Friday 25th September
  • Time: 4:00pm – 8.30pm
  • Join Now!
  • Five fantastic inclusive sessions; Yoga, Hockey, Fitness, Boccia and Self-Defence!
  • All activities will be led by experienced coaches/instructors who will provide options for all abilities and experience levels!
  • You can sign up to 1, 2, 3, 4 or ALL of the sessions, just be sure to sign up so you have the details to log in to the sessions on the day!
