TPT Launches New Coaching Offer!

Facing Redundancy? TPT Launches New Coaching Offer

New professional coaching service for blind and partially sighted people

Original Post by pocklington-trust.org.uk

Blind and partially sighted people who are facing redundancy or have been made redundant can get support through a new professional coaching service launched by Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and the Centre for Resolution.

Martin Sigsworth, Senior Employment Manager at TPT, said: “Citizens Advice research has revealed disabled people are at least twice as likely to face redundancy*.  And the hard truth is that right now securing a job is likely to be even harder for blind and partially sighted people due to increased competition for fewer roles.”

The new professional coaching service, delivered by the Centre for Resolution, an established mediation and coaching company, will help people who have been made redundant work through what steps they need to take to secure their next role.

If you think coaching will help you to make a plan for your next career goals or want to figure out what those goals are, send an email to   employment@pocklington-trust.org.uk  and they can arrange an initial call to see if coaching is right for you.

Ryan Compton, Director of the Centre for Resolution, said: “As a visually impaired person myself, I know the challenges blind and partially sighted people face both securing employment and progressing in their careers.  So, we are delighted to partner with TPT to provide this service specifically to visually impaired people.

“TPT is funding the service so it is free for blind and partially sighted people who need it.  Our coaches will help them identify career goals, develop a strategy with action steps to reach those goals, and provide accountability to achieve them. The career coach will use proven listening and querying techniques to support them as they find their own answers to problems they are facing.”

Martin added: “We know that assistive technology allows blind and partially sighted people to perform roles in the workplace as well as their fully sighted colleagues. But many employers as still oblivious to this and ‘won’t take the chance’ with blind and partially sighted candidates.  The new coaching service aims to try to level the playing field, to give people confidence and help them to find direction.”

Blindness Awareness Month 2020 with TPT

Blindness Awareness Month 2020 with TPT!

Original Article by www.pocklington-trust.org.uk

October is Blindness Awareness Month – and gosh, do Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) have a packed programme of videos, podcasts, webinar events, articles and stories to share with you every day this month!

Accessible technology in the workplace has come a long way over the last few years allowing blind and partially sighted employees to perform roles as well as their fully sighted counterparts.

Every week during October we will share an instructive video on how our blind and partially sighted colleagues manage spreadsheets and CRM systems, create and deliver presentations, organise meetings and post on social media.

National Braille week falls within Blindness Awareness Month (5-11 October) so we will be sharing a series of articles, videos, a podcast and interesting facts about Braille and its place in everyday life.

The following week we have a focus on accessible tech. Our technology experts will be reviewing Google Look and two competing Braille products.  We will also have a head-to-head between the conference software Microsoft Teams vs Zoom and a webinar event on accessible tech for education.

The latter part of the month we focus on stories from blind and partially sighted people in the workplace and showcase employers who are getting it right.  We also share inspiring stories from young people.

Visit the TPT for more information: www.pocklington-trust.org.uk

What is life like for you? – Study by RNIB, Guide Dogs & TPT

What is life like for you a Study by RNIB, Guide Dogs & TPT

Take part in a vital study into the lives of blind and partially sighted people

Take part in a vital study into the lives of blind and partially sighted people
For the first time ever RNIB, Guide Dogs and Thomas Pocklington Trust are jointly carrying out an important piece of research to uncover the realities of life for blind and partially sighted people in the UK today.

We need to hear what you think! What is life like for you. How can we do better?

This research will be used to help us deliver better services and work jointly to make a positive difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people.

The final results from the survey will be shared across the whole sector to improve services and support for people with vision impairment.

The research is carried out via a telephone interview by our research partner DJS research and Acumen which may last up to 50 minutes. Participation is entirely voluntary and you can withdraw from the study at any point. All data is anonymised so you cannot subsequently be identified. The only time this anonymity may be reviewed is if there were serious concerns about yours or someone else’s safety.

If you are blind or partially sighted, we would like to hear from you.

Tell us about your life and what’s most important to you!
