Things are changing: SELVIS to London Vision South East
We’ve been working alongside and within London Vision for some time now and from January 2019 SELVIS will become London Vision South East. Our service offer will remain exactly the same we will continue to support an extensive programme of events and activities and deliver one to one support with technology and form filling. We’ll also continue the influencing and campaigning work to ensure services accessed by people with sight loss in south east London are as good as they should be. We’ll be supported by London Vision’s core team who’ll be campaigning and influencing London wide. The core team will also support students and people with sight loss looking for employment or to change career direction.
In a few weeks we won’t have a SELVIS website or social media presence. You’ll find all our events and activities on London Vision’s website- http://www.londonvision.org/ along with events that are taking place across the whole of London. There will be exciting blogs and information on the website to which you’ll be able to contribute. You’ll also notice that our e-mail address will change in January. You don’t have to do anything as your messages will be automatically rerouted to our new address. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask email@example.com or 020 3815 3660.
Sporting, cultural and social highlights 2018
Throughout 2018 we’ve hosted regular peer support meetings every month in Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark and Greenwich. Members have had opportunities to learn from each other and share their experiences of living with sight loss. Every month the groups host one or more speakers, so if you’d like to speak please get in touch and if you’ve spoken before you are welcome to come back!
We’ve hosted Tai chi, self-defence, yoga, spinning and swimming classes. We’ve visited west end theatres for touch tours and audio described performances. We’ve completed art and craft sessions. We’ve an extensive programme developing for 2019. It’s important to us that as many people with sight loss join us so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’ve questions. We aim to meet and greet people with sight loss from the nearest public transport drop off point for the activity. Where possible friends and family can join in.(space allowing)
SELVIS One to One
We’ve supported more than 80 people on a one to one basis, we’ve been filling in PIP forms, ESA applications and Attendance allowance forms. We’ve also supported people with taxi card and blue badge applications. We’ve also been introducing people to access technology on smart phones or tablets. We’ve now got a range of equipment we can demonstrate thanks to generous funding from the Greater London Fund for the Blind. We don’t repair or fix problems with computers as we’ve been asked to do on a number of occasions this year. Where we have had success is with raising money through grants to pay for specialist tech. If you’d like to refer someone for one to one support then it’s simple call 020 3815 3660

We are still able to offer a Free sight loss awareness training session of up to 3 hours in length across the boroughs we support apart from Bromley where the KAB can provide excellent training both accredited and non-accredited please call for more details 0203 815 3660
We’re hosting a campaigns meeting on December 11th for the borough of Bexley so if you live or work in Bexley why not come along to the central library at 11am to have your say on issues that impact on the lives of people with sight loss in Bexley. To book a place or for more information it’s firstname.lastname@example.org or 0203 815 3660
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported our work throughout 2018 there’s too many of you to mention individually but you’ve made a significant impact on the lives of people living with sight loss. So thank you again.
