Uplifting activities for 2021 from Sense

Sense is back providing you with more accessible activities to keep you active and creative.

 

Live sessions

These take place at specific times and must be booked in advance. Follow the link for your chosen activity to book your place. We’ve changed how you book your live physical activity sessions. You now only have to book once, which confirms your place(s) for that activity every week until the final date listed on the booking page. Make a note of this date-you’ll need to sign up again for the next block of sessions once this date has passed.

Events

Tai Chi  Mondays

Day:  Mondays  Time:2 pm  – 3 pm

Equipment needed. Chair

Boxing

D/deaf Yoga for  Wellbeing (signed only)

Drumming to Music

Day: Fridays Time: 2 pm – 3 pm

Equipment needed

  • Chair if desired (can be done  seated or standing)
  • 2 “drum sticks”- these could be wooden spoons, pens, or any­
    thing else you can find in your home

Get moving to the upbeat music, and practice your drumming skills using wooden spoons, pens, or whatever you have at home! This is a live, virtual class, hosted on Zoom. To access the class, you will need to book your place through our online booking system.

Exercise Through Dance

Active at Home

Sense have been working with Disability Rights UK and Durham University to create some pre-recorded videos suitable for disabled people and people with long term health conditions.

Starting from 5th January, we are kicking off our Active at Home workouts with four series of different workouts. Check out the timetable below, and visit the DRUK YouTube channel here: https://blindsport.uk/GYAYoutube

So this is our first session so all you need today, is just something to sit on whether it’s a  dining chair, a sofa, you can sit on the floor, whatever works for you.”  Claire Miller

Each class will begin & end with focus on your breath , leaving you with a sense of lightness. Claire will give clear & descriptive instructions for each movement,  so you  can relax and enjoy your class.

Claire is a highly qualified fitness & yoga teacher, who became visually impaired a few years ago & truly believes that yoga is for all.

FREE Virtual Exercises Wed 2pm - Tottenham Hotspur Foundation

Visually Impaired Virtual Exercise classes

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is looking to support and improve your Physical, Mental and Social Health throughout this difficult period. Join the FREE virtual exercise classes hosted by Tottenham Hotspur Foundations Health and Wellbeing coaches.

When asked what is most enjoyable about the sessions, 38-year-old Metro member Chandni said, “The energy and the fact that it’s not just an easy workout, however, there is also that flexibility for beginners – the programme is tailored for people of all abilities.”

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation will be running weekly exercise classes exploring different types of training including:

  • Weights training – using light weights (dumbbells, water bottles, tins, books etc)
  • Calorie Burning Interval Classes
  • Core Blaster
  • Flexibility and Stability training – Promoting better balance, coordination and reducing the risk of injury
  • Recovery and mindfulness techniques

Metro Members Feedback on  the previous sessions

When asked how the sessions have helped, 39-Year-old Adi said  “They have made me realise how fit I am, and they have given me a better understanding of how to be active. It’s also made me realise you can get a nice workout without any equipment. I like the fact that there is an accessible online programme to attend. I think the best thing which would make me return is the trainer Adam, who is really engaging and funny and makes the session good.”

 

72-year-old Dolly said about the programme “I have been looking forward to these sessions every week they were on and felt better after each one. I was even practising the exercises which we learnt in my own time. The socialising aspect of the programme was great too as sometimes we have a minute to talk with the other participants which is really nice. Of course, Adam has been brilliant too and all the other participants who take part – there’s no pressure from anyone.”
