VIBE’s Indoor Pairs Competition in Nottingham
Metro bowls report – Nottingham
Six hardy Metro bowlers braved storm Eunice to participate in VIBE’s annual indoor pairs competition. Gail Hepworth also travelled to help coordinate the weekend.
Sadly, the poor weather reduced the number of teams. However, all went successfully.
Maureen Ryan and David Mears hardly got off to a good start. The same could be said of Wilbert Williams, who was partnered by a Pennine bowler. Junette Taylor, also playing with a non-Metro partner, fared somewhat better. She won as many games as she lost, finishing in the middle of the pack. Meanwhile, Marjorie Convey and Steven Simmons demonstrated considerable consistency, heading for the top four.
In the main competition, the top four pairs played a round Robin for the trophies. It was to be tough, but Steven and Marjorie maintained some good form. They won 2 of their 3 games, eventually finishing as runners-up.
In a plate competition Junette soldiered on, but no cigar. A rejuvenated Maureen carried her partner through 3 solid games, winning the competition. This included defeating Wilbert along the way. Sorry, Wilbert.

We are grateful to the England Team Manager, and the VIBE committee for their hard work in helping the weekend to run smoothly.
Everyone at Nottingham IBC has, to say the least, provided us with fabulous support over a number of years. A special thank you to Judy and Paul who sponsored the use of the greens. They have said that they will do so again next year.
