Seeing is believing
London Vision, Sight and Sound Technology and Sidcup’s Holy Redeemer church are working together to bring you ‘Seeing is believing’. It’s an interactive exhibition focussing on eye care and services for people with sight loss. We can give you advice on eye health and we have an expert on hand to advise on how best to use eye drops, including demonstrating some new gadgets that can help get the eye drop in exactly the right place. Our expert can also tell you all about glaucoma and dry eye and will be happy to take questions about many different eye conditions.
Sight and Sound Technologies will be demonstrating a range of video magnifiers, talking mobile phones and computers, all of which can help blind and partially sighted people lead independent lives. London Vision and Inspire Community Trust will be on hand to provide advice and information on living with sight loss. The Macular Society can provide information on the latest treatments for macular conditions, as well as advice on strategies for making the best of your vision. Guide Dogs for the Blind will also be in attendance, they will be more than happy to tell you about their services and about guide dogs generally, as well as providing information about how you can help their work by volunteering.
This event will also be a great chance to meet the team from Holy Redeemer who are working to build positive communities in Bexley. The church run several activities throughout the week and are keen to strengthen community connections to encourage locals to make the most of the activities on offer.
The Seeing is Believing event will open in the main church at 10 am on September 25, however, if you are looking for more physical activities, Metro Blind Sport will also be hosting an afternoon of visually impaired sport in the church hall. Come along and find out about adapted sports and sports specifically designed for blind and partially sighted people. There will be tennis, goal ball, martial arts, new age curling and something a little gentler. Come and join in – all are welcome.
