Well…what can we say!

Illuminate Freedom’s journey so far has been just incredible and we have reached our first birthday!

As a special thank you for helping us make it the wonderful year that it has been, we are hosting a huge day and night of celebrations with something for everyone!

Picnic in Hyde Park

We have found the perfect spot. It actually rests in Kensington Gardens – on the border of Hyde Park, right next to the Princess Diana Memorial Playground.

Join us for a lazy afternoon relaxing in the sun (we hope) and meet some of the other amazingly warm and friendly people, younger and older, that join us for our dance, exercise, music and social activities and that read our newsletters, emails, tweets and Facebook posts.

It’s so wonderful to see how many of you have made some great friends with people that you have met through us.

At our Picnic in the Park, we will be playing some cool summer tunes, sharing conversation and good times and hosting some fun, fully accessible activities and games. We might even hold a little “Dance in the Park” if you’re up for it!

There will be some brave special guest performances from our Big Dance Trafalgar Square performers, our Blind Street Dance Class members and our music band Soul Vision, plus a song or two from musicians from the Baluji Music Foundation!

If you fancy a chilled little music jam and sing-along at some point in the afternoon, feel free to bring an instrument too, or some ideas for a great sing-along song.

Please come prepared for all weathers as there is not much shelter in the park.

At around 6pm, we’ll slowly start to tidy up and get ready to move on to the evening celebrations for 6.30pm. The next venue is a three-four minute walk from the park, past Queensway Underground Station, where we will run a Meet and Greet and Drop-Off Service simultaneously.

Birthday Freedom Night

All smiles and thumbs up as we gather around tables in a cosy restaurant at a past Freedom Night
The Beachcomber, 86 Queensway, London W2 3RR

We have hired a section in a lovely, cozy cocktail bar called Beachcomber, along Queensway. It’s not much to look at from the outside, but enter, walk down the stairs and you are transported into a tropical beach world, where grass coats the walls and stools and every corner of the room offers an array of tactile delights!

Serving Caribbean-inspired nibbles and Polinesian cocktails, Beachcomber promises great music, fantastic friendly and helpful staff, and the chance to win up to 80% off the price of each cocktail, with their fun bar games!

Guide dogs are welcome.

Bookings

Please email or phone us as soon as possible if you have not yet booked your place at our Picnic in the Park or our Birthday Freedom Night. The guest list is growing and we want to make sure we have enough volunteers in our Access Support team.

Accessible versions of bar nibbles and cocktail menus are available upon booking. If you would like to be met at Bayswater Underground Station for the Circle or District Line, please contact us to make arrangements.

If you would like to volunteer for us, please get in touch, we always appreciate the assistance and support.

We are so excited and hope to see you on Saturday 23 July – friends, family, and carers welcome!

Warmest wishes,

Louise and the Illuminate Freedom Team 🙂
