Athletics Open to all on 11  June 2022

Our Athletic Open on 11 June 2022 at the Mile End Stadium is open to all of the UK!

Join us for a fun day for all the family!

Open to everyone from juniors to veterans, try field events including the high and long jump, shot put, discus and javelin, or run 60m sprint to 5,000m.

The athletics event is the perfect opportunity for blind and partially sighted people to experience what it’s like to take part in a professionally organised athletics event. We have official starters, scorers, judges, and commentary for the event.

Better still, it is FREE to attend.

  • The closing date for entry is Wednesday 1 June 2022.

Date:  Sat 11 June 2022   Time: 12 pm – 5 pm   Cost: Free
Venue: Mile End Stadium, 190 Burdett Rd, London, E3 4HL

How to get there:

By Tube: Mile End station (Hammersmith and City Line, District Line, Central Line) approximately 0.5 miles, 10-12 minutes walking distance to Mile End Stadium.

Directions: Exit Mile End Station, turn left along Mile End Road, take another left onto Burdett Road and continue along the road for roughly 8-9 minutes until you reach Mile End Stadium across the road.

By car: parking is very limited within Mile End Stadium and there is a potential risk of not being able to find a suitable place to park. Only 40 total spaces are available with 3 disabled spaces available. Parking is £1 but restricted to two hours. We recommend travelling by public transport where possible.

NORTH LONDON

SENSORY WALKS

 Who: These walks are open for anyone to enjoy but are focussed on supporting people who are deafblind or have complex disabilities.

When: Fridays starting 7th June, 11.00 – 12.00.

Where: Golders Hill Park, London NW3 7HD. The meeting point is on West Heath Road.

What: This sensory walk has been co-developed with the Outdoor Guide and will be led by GLL Barnet. The walk can be enjoyed on your own, or with family and friends by following the map on the Outdoor Guide website https://theoutdoorguide.co.uk/walks/sensory-walks/golders-hill-park-walk-london/ Or if you would like to join us for a guided walk on Friday’s you can by registering your attendance.

 

FOOTBALL

Who: For anyone 6-19 years old. This session is aimed at children and young people with a disability and their siblings.

When: Every Wednesday during school terms, 5.00pm – 6.00pm.

Where: Coram’s Fields Football Pitch, 93 Guilford Street, London WC1N 1DN.

What: Free inclusive football session which is being run by Arsenal Football club and Coram’s Field.

 

 CLIMBING

Who: For anyone 12+ with a sensory impairment or complex needs who wants to get involved.

 When: Wednesday 26th June, Wednesday 3rd, 10th, 24th, 31st July and 7th August 11.00am – 12.30pm.

Where: The Castle Climbing Centre, Green Lanes, London N4 2HA.

What: Free Climbing sessions. This group is led by an instructor, participants take it in turns to have a go on the various climbing walls.

*Please register your attendance each week as there are limited spaces available!

  

YOGA

 Who: For anyone 18+ with a sensory impairment or complex needs who wants to get involved

 When: Thursday 13th June to Thursday 25th July, 2.15 – 3.45pm.

Where: Pancras Square Leisure 5 Pancras Rd, Kings Cross, London N1C 4AG

What: Free accessible yoga being delivered by Richard, who has over 15 years of experience

SOUTH LONDON

 

FOOTBALL

 Who: For children and adults (5+) who are blind or partially sighted.

When: Thursdays, 6.00pm – 7.00pm.

Where: Brixton Recreation Centre, Brixton Station Rd, Brixton. Meet and greet available from Brixton station at 5.30pm.

What: Inclusive football led by Fulham Football Club Foundation and delivered in partnership with Metro Blind Sports and London FA.

TAI CHI with SELF DEFENCE

Who: For anyone 18+ with a sensory impairment or complex needs who wants to get involved.

When: Mondays 17th June – 29th July, 2.00pm – 3.30pm.

Where: Everyone Active, Camberwell, Leisure Centre, Artichoke Place, London, SE5 8TS.

What: Free Tai Chi with Self Defence session. This group is led by Miz, an experienced Tai Chi and Self Defence instructor and is delivered in partnership with Everyone Active and Southwark Disablement Association. 

 

ICE SKATING

Who: For anyone 12+ with a sensory impairment or complex needs who wants to get involved.

 When: Wednesdays, 11.30am – 12.30pm. There will be no sessions on the 10th and 17th of April 2019.

Where: Streatham Ice and Leisure Centre, 390 Streatham High Rd, London SW16 6HX.

Cost: £5.70 per session. Paid upon arrival to leisure centre.

What: This is an opportunity for people to attend an open ice skating session at the leisure centre for people with a disability. This session is not led by an instructor, but there is a skate marshal present.

 

As with all of our sessions we welcome friends, family and support workers to come along and join in, you don’t have to be sat on the side, you can have fun and learn as well.
