Disability Sports Coach: At Home Activity and Online Sessions

Disability Sports Coach: The Home Activity and Online Sessions

Disability Sports Coach, with the help of Davies Sport, will reach Community Club members from 13 London boroughs, helping them to stay active during isolation.

Disability Sports Coach CEO, Peter Ackred says “For many of our members, accessing and understanding social media platforms is challenging. By sending out Home equipment packs, we are ensuring we connect with our most hard to reach members.”

Community Club members will also be receiving a ‘DSC Home Activity Programme,’ providing bespoke Home activity cards. All equipment needed, is provided in their equipment packs. Alternatively, Home objects can be used as a substitute for the equipment, where needed for many of the activities

The DSC Home Activity Programme will also be accessible to disabled people nationally. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we aim to motivate as many disabled people as possible to be active in the safety of their own homes, while having a great time!

Disability Sports Coach and London Sport have partnered to deliver disability equality training courses that aim to ensure disabled people have improved experiences when accessing sport services and facilities in London.

The tailored, bespoke course improves individuals’ knowledge and understanding of barriers that deaf and disabled people may face in a sports facility, reasons why it is important and beneficial to make services inclusive and how organisations can effectively engage with deaf and disabled people.

Who is the course for?

This is an introductory course suitable for any organisation that provides services in sport, leisure and tourism.

  • Understand the business case for providing inclusive services
  • Identify steps that could be taken to remove specific barriers in your facility
  • Understand the Equality Act 2010 legislation
  • Explore different methods of communication
  • Explore how to use terminologies appropriately

The course is 3 hours long with a comfort break
