After the successful launch event of the VI women’s group in June, a programme of activities and events has been put together for the next five months.  We reviewed the suggestions from those who attended the launch event, and have come up with a variety of activities.   These include guest speakers talking about areas such as employment and technology, as well as a fitness class, Christmas gifts market and plenty of socialising.

All of the in house events will be held at Croydon Vision’s premises at:-

Venue: Bedford Hall, 72-74 Wellesley Road, CR0 2AR.

And have been scheduled for the third week of the month.

Events will alternate between daytime or evening, with daytime events at Bedford Hall being held on the 3rd Monday of the month and for outings or evening activities the 3rd Wednesday.  The dates and activities are listed below and we hope this will quickly become a recognised pattern of meeting which will make it easy for attendees and organisers alike

Carers and loved ones are always welcome to join members, and activities will also have some volunteer assistance.

What’s happening and When?

  • Wednesday 16th August – Picnic in the Park

It was clear at our launch event that everyone really enjoyed meeting new people and socialising, so for our next meet up we will be having a picnic in Lloyd Park Croydon.  The group will meet outside Croydon Vision (address above) at 10:30, and set off to West Croydon tram stop at 10:45.  We will take a tram to Lloyd Park (approximately 15-20 minutes) and enjoy some time together to socialise and eat a lunch. Participants will need to bring their own packed lunch or money to get something from the onsite park café.  The park is a great open space, and participants will have an opportunity to go for a stroll in a safe setting if they wish to do so.  The group will stay at the park until 13:15, when they will then take a tram back to West Croydon tram stop and walk back to Croydon Vision to depart

(PLEASE NOTE, there will be a small number of volunteers to assist participants with direction and reading of café menus, however we are not able to provide volunteers on a 1 to 1 basis. Those who require guided support are advised to bring a carer, or arrange to buddy up with another member prior to the activity.)

  •  Monday 18th September – get smart with your phones and tablets at Croydon Vision, Bedford Hall 12:30-15:00.

This event will have guest speakers and a workshop on using accessibility tools on smart phones and tablets.  There will also be a session where the group will vote for their own group coordinator.  Lunch will also be provided at this event.

Those interested in being the group’s coordinator, including finding out a bit more of what it would involve,  please express your interest by contacting Alex Pepper via email: alex.pepper@pocklington-trust .org.uk or by phone on 07970 725 620

  • Monday 16th October – shape up, work out at Bedford Hall: 12:30-15:00.

Keep fit class, wind down socialise and enjoy some light refreshments, and then we have some guest speakers talking about gaining employment as a visually impaired person.

  •  Wednesday 15th November – Christmas gifts market and early festive fun.

at Bedford Hall: late afternoon / early evening,  exact time TBC

Croydon Vision will be hosting an in house Christmas gift market.  Group members will be able to shop around a set up market where there will be a selection of Christmas gifts on offer.  All of the stalls will be VI friendly, and there will be plenty of help to assist members whilst they shop around.  There will also be some early festive treats for all to enjoy.

If you are interested in any of the events, then please register your interest with
Alex Pepper, Thomas Pocklington Trust by emailing:
