Northern Ballet Audio Described of Geisha!

Northern Ballet return to Sadler’s Wells Theatre this Spring with a brand new production Geisha; based on remarkable true events, experience Northern Ballet’s exceptional dancers in this must-see ballet from 21st – 25th April, with an Audio Described performance available on Saturday 25th April at 2.30 pm.

Patrons wishing to make use of the audio description should book a headset in advance by calling the Ticket Office on 020 7863 8000. There are a limited amount of stalls seats for partially sighted patrons only available via the phone, please contact Ticket Office for more information. Subject to availability.

Northern Ballet’s Audio Described performance will immerse audiences in the story of Geisha – and with detailed descriptions of the ballet’s movements you won’t miss a beat. Tickets also include a chance for patrons (and companions if required), to take part in our Touch Tour Insight to learn more about the production.

Audio Description and Touch Tours

Our Audio Descriptions are co-written and delivered by former Northern Ballet Premier Dancer Pippa Moore and VocalEyes, offering a unique insight into our productions and bringing our performances to life for visually impaired patrons. You will hear descriptions of the movement, action and drama on stage with music played live by Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

Audio Description ticket holders are encouraged to take part in our free Touch Tour Insight Workshops, which take place before our Audio Described performances. These workshops introduce elements of the production to aid your understanding of the show. You will hear descriptions of the scenery, feel the props and costumes and discover the shapes and quality of the movement from the ballet with the aid of Pippa and Company dancers.

‘I used to go and see dance companies regularly before losing a lot of my eyesight. I did not think I would be able to go to any dance performances ever again… A friend encouraged me to go to an audio-visual performance and touch tour and your ballet was my first experience of this… it made such a positive difference and I will be returning to see further dance performances. ‘Victoria’ at Sadler’s Wells Theatre

Northern Ballet will be performing their brand new production of ‘Victoria’ at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in the next few weeks, and we will be providing an Audio Description for one of the performances for visually impaired patrons.

The day includes a chance for patrons (and companions if required), to take part in an insight workshop and touch tour to learn more about the production.

We encourage you to arrive at the theatre at 11.30am to take part in a Touch Tour Insight, which introduces elements of the production to aide in your understanding of the show.

You can hear a description of the scenery, feel the props and costumes and discover the shapes and quality of the movement from the ballet with the aid of company dancers.   You can also listen to descriptions of the movement and feel the dancers as they demonstrate some of the key steps. Or, if you want to know how the movements feel, you can have a go and partner up with one of our dancers and let them guide you through steps from the show.

Don’t worry if you can’t be at the theatre for the Touch Tour Insight, as our Audio Describer will give a detailed description of the set, costumes, story and characters 15 minutes before the performance in the pre-show notes.

The performance will then be brought to life in your mind’s eye with a detailed description of the movement, action and drama that takes place to the music played live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia.
