Science Museum – Free VI Events for families – age 7 and over

On Saturday 29th August please come and join us at the Science Museum for our free events held for families with members who are aged 7 and over who are visually impaired or blind.

Times and details are as follows:

10:30 – Audio Described Launch Pad ‘Flash! Bang! Wallop!’ show and touch tour
Join us for an Explainer-led interactive show discovering the science of explosions. How are they made? What are they? And what are they used for? Be blown away by fantastic demonstrations. Live Audio Description of this show will be available along with a touch tour of the props.
(Recommended for families with children aged 7 +. Approx. 1 hour)

13:00 – ‘Full Steam Ahead’ immersive storytelling
Discover what it would take to become a train engineer in this interactive storytelling session. Find out the differences between locomotives and trains, feel for yourselves just how important oil is and get blown away with the power of steam. All aboard!
(Recommended for families with children aged 7 +. Approx. 1 hour)

14:30– Object handling of Information Age gallery artefacts
Hold history in your hands with objects from the Science Museum’s collection. Find out what they are made from and how they transformed the way we communicate and share information.
(Recommended for families with children aged 7 +.  Drop in over an hour and a half)

14:30 – Information Age Gallery Tour
The Information Age gallery celebrates more than 200 years of innovation in information and communication technologies. Discover the six zones: The Cable, The Telephone Exchange, Broadcast, The Constellation, The Cell and The Web, on a tour of our biggest gallery to date.
(Recommended for adults, but children welcome. Tour lasts approx. 30mins, but staff will be there for an hour and a half)
