Sailing from Southampton in Hampshire, the premier port for departures of luxury cruises, we will sail out of the sheltered waters of the Isle of Wight shadowed Solent, passing the Ikonic rock formation – The needles along the coast of Hampshire and Dorset. The area of the Jurassic coast, rounding Portland Bill before crossing the mystical Lyme Bay, steeped in history from the days when it was instrumental in defeating the Armada to the disasters encountered during WW2.
There is always a great chance that we will be escorted by a pod of playful Dolphins here, as we continue Westward edging ever nearer to the historic Port of Plymouth; famous for Sir Walter Raleigh. As we sail on we will move from the Devon coastline, onto the more rugged landscape of Cornwall before eventually arriving at the Carrick Rhodes on the river Fal leading us into the Cornish town of Falmouth.
Departure date; 25 June 2018
Arrival Date: 30th June 2018
The cost for this 6-day maritime sailing odyssey will be £240
To coincide with the annual sailing regatta for Visually impaired sailors, we will be participating in Blind Week. The only yacht run and organised by Blind and partially sighted people for the empowerment, encouragement and enjoyment of all visually impaired people through off –shore sailing.
Leaving Falmouth in our wake we will sail up the Carrickrhodes and point our bow eastwards towards Plymouth the home of the Royal Navy’s fleet in the South West of England. The following day we will sail into Torquay; the English Riviera on the edge of Lyme Bay. Crossing Lyme Bay where we hope to pick up an escort of Dolphins before rounding Portland Island and resting the night in Weymouth; King George iii’s favourite seaside resort.
A long sail ever eastwards passing Lulworth cove and running adjacent the Purbeck Hills with the Sea Stack of Old Harry rocks off our portside we will sight the dramatic backdrop of the needles in the distance marking the entry into the Solent and our refuge for the night in Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. Our final day’s sail will have us rounding the infamous Bramble bank as we alter our course to head up Southampton Water; perhaps accompanied by some of the World’s largest cruise liners, before finally reaching our destination port where we shall disembark.
