Metro Bowls Tournament Reports

Vibe Nationals and the Hastings Bowls Tournament Reports!

The VIBE English Bowls Nationals were again held at the Royal Leamington Spa Bowls Club.  There were fewer bowlers this year as they, unfortunately, had to change the date from June to July.  Unlike last year, the weather was hot with no rain.  As there were fewer players this year, David Stott, the England Team Manager, organised a pairs competition before the singles tournament.

The last round of matches took place on the Friday afternoon, followed by the presentation.  The Metro players did extremely well again in the pairs and singles.  In the pairs Eric and Amit won the B1 category, Steve with his partner won the B3 category and Gause, at his first Nationals, with his partner won the B4s.  In the singles Eric won gold, Harish won silver in the B2s, Steve won the B3s for the 8th time in a row. There were only 6 Metro bowlers this year, but they all enjoyed the competitions.

On the 14th of July, the day after the Nationals finished, 10 Metro bowlers had to travel down to Hastings for their 52nd tournament.  Some of the bowlers went up to the green on the Saturday afternoon for a little roll-up.  The Triples Tournament started on the Sunday morning and all played 3 games that day, which meant we missed France winning the World Cup.  The rest of the week was taken up playing pairs and Singles.  Most of the bowlers went back up to the club on the Friday evening for the presentation, followed with a buffet and raffle.  It was nice to see 3 of our new bowlers Mariza, Gause, and Wilbert there enjoying themselves like the rest of the bowlers.

Eric won the B1 tournament followed by Amit second.  Amit, Constance and Harish came second in the triples.  On the Thursday afternoon Junette, Wilbert and Clive won the Plate.  In the very last match on the Friday afternoon, Metro’s Gail won the Open Singles with Chris from Hastings runner-up.  It is such a lovely friendly tournament, most of us want to go back again next year.
