METRO BOWLERS ENJOY THEIR POTTERS BAR MATCH
On Saturday the 27th of July, 17 Metro bowlers met at Kings Cross then got the train to Potters Bar to play their annual match against that club for the Charlie Bastin cup. Transport was organised for us to take us from the station to the bowling club. For years we could only get 3 teams, but last year we managed to get 4 and this year we managed to increase it to 5 teams.
3 of our new members: Yusuf, Josie and David Wood played for us their first match. There had been heavy rain earlier, but by the time we got there the rain had nearly stopped so each team was able to play 18 ends of bowls.
The Metro bowlers played well, but the Potters Bar teams were this time just too good for us and they won on all 5 rinks. Our team of Josie, Yusuf and Wilbert did the best of our teams only losing 16-13.
After the games finished, we all went in for a nice afternoon tea and a drink. Our captain Eric then presented the cup to their captain Steve who invited us back next year. Cars were then provided again to take some folk to the station and the majority went to the local Wetherspoon pub for an enjoyable evening.
