Bowls: 3 Medals for Metro in Glasgow

3 Medals for Metro Bowlers in Glasgow

3 MEDALS FOR METRO BOWLERS IN GLASGOW

This year it was Scotland’s turn to organise and run the UK Indoor Singles Championships.  This time it was held in the Indoor Glasgow Bowls Club, and all the bowlers stayed in the Ibis hotel in the centre of town, so a coach took the players and their helpers to and back from the club.  The hotel was very nice but expensive, so most of the competitors had an evening meal at the club before returning to the hotel.

The selectors from each of the home countries could choose 2 players, male and female, in each category from B1 to B4.  In the England team there were 3 players with their directors from the Metro club: Maureen Ryan with David Mears, Amit Amin with Harish Kumrai and Eric Gallacher with his brother Philip.

Maureen played in the B2’s and won all her games except the one against Julie Thomas from Wales who went on to win all her games, so Julie got the gold medal and our Maureen got the silver.

In the B1 category, Eric only lost 1 game against Jack Lloyd of Wales who also won all his other games so Jack got the gold medal and Eric got the silver.
