AGM Notice 2020 from Andrew Law – Chairperson

AGM Notice 2020 from Andrew Law - Chairperson

Dear Members

Prior to the Metro AGM on the 27th November, I am providing an update on two items.

I confirm that Carol will be leaving her role with Metro as fundraising officer at the end of November 2020.

Carol has worked for Metro Blind Sport since 2010 and with us for 17 years in total. Heavily involved in the fundraising activity for the Metro Athletics Open, an event enjoyed by thousands of blind and partially sighted people over the years.  Carol has contributed to the raising of significant funds during her time with Metro, enabling us to deliver many sporting, physical and social activities for our member’s benefit and enjoyment.

Known and very well-liked by members, staff, trustees and funders.  On behalf of all the trustees and the staff team, I wish Carol the very best for the future.  We will say and do more to celebrate Carol’s contribution at the AGM.

I will update you on our plans for fundraising going forward as it becomes clear when we will be able to resume something like our regular programme of activities.  In the meantime, I can assure you Metro is in a healthy financial position as you will be able to understand from the most recent Annual Report. A link to the Annual Report is detailed at the end of this message.

As we come to the end of a difficult and challenging 2020, circumstances unique to all of us, with no change immediately on the horizon, I want to update you on my second item.

Collectively, the board of trustees have been in discussions with our main funder TPT, negotiating and formalising our funding arrangements.  Supported by our CEO Martin Symcox, these discussions have rightly taken time but always been supportive, professional and with the priority to be mutually beneficial to both Metro and TPT.  We are very close to signing the agreement with TPT, with it in place by the end of this year.

What I can say is, that when signed, this agreement will give Metro a strong base to be optimistic about our future.  Myself, the other trustees and Martin Symcox are confident, the funding partnership with TPT will make us well placed to continue to deliver benefits to our members existing and new.

With our 50th anniversary fast approaching we are keen to secure the legacy of Metro and build an organisation ready to meet our member’s needs now and in the future.
