AbilityNet provides a range of support to help disabled people and older people to get the most from their home computers, tablets and smartphones.
They have a network of friendly AbilityNet IT Can Help volunteers who can fix all sorts of IT problems and their free factsheets and other expert resources provide a range of specialist advice and information.
Maggie Dawson, our Braille Tutor, used their service recently and this is an account of her experience.
‘I phoned their office and was contacted within 48 hours by one of their volunteers who helps with IT in my postcode area. He visited me the following day and the problem was solved by the end of his visit. The volunteer was very competent, efficient and immediately put me at my ease.
When you call they will register you on their system and you will be matched with a volunteer who will contact you to arrange a visit to your home. In some cases, it may have been possible to solve the query when you first call them. I have been very pleased with my experience with them’.
