Sailing: It’s nearly flaming June!

Sailing Update from VISA-GB!

Yes my lovely shipmates the water butts are overflowing, the welly boots cracked and leaking due to over use, even the digestives have got a bit soggy due to the constant downpours.  But we are smiling, yes smiling, as the sailing season is a’ starting.  At long last the shackles are off and we’re good to go, “Haslar we have a problem, we’ve just spotted a Visa-gb flag fluttering and that means they’re back!!”.

That’s right the plucky crew of the good ship Ellie B are arriving on Tuesday, ready, willing and able.  Four of the finest visually impaired crew and a couple oddballs ready to take on the South Coast in all it’s glory.  Tales of daring do, film of the simple rise and fall of the spinnaker, this and much more to follow on their return so watch this space.

And here’s a thank you and an apology.  With 2020 cancelled, and all you fine sailors chewing at the bit for a trip on the briny, you’ve already made 2021 a bumper year.  Over 80 sailors are taking part in voyages from the South, the West and the North, so thank you for your patience and we’re sure it’ll be worth the wait!

This  record numbers of sailors taking part is fantastic but, and there is a but, if we had more boats even more of you could have taken part so we’re sorry if you’ve missed out and hope you’ll sign up for next year’s trips.

If you’re out and about on 3rd July be sure to cheer on Rick and his crew in this year’s Round The Island Race.  Our patron, Pip Hare, is the official starter for this year’s race, what an honour, well deserved and we’ve no doubt they’ll be an extra spring in her step now a new foiling race machine has been secured for the next Vendee Globe.

Do you live near Poole and fancy a cocktail on the pontoon to celebrate Sea Vision?  You do! Well come on down to the Town Quay marina on Thursday 12th or Friday 13th August, we’ll be there and waiting to fill your glass with a dash and a splash from 1830.  Peter and his crew are taking new sailors out for a day sail and then back with their party frocks for a pontoon party.  Get in touch with Lorraine on info@visa-gb.org.uk for more details.  The whole party scene is repeated on Sunday 15th and Monday 16th same time same place – Poole you’ve been warned!

How do you fancy a yourself in the new Visa-gb T-shirt? Yes folks we’re hitting the catwalk with some nautical style.  And today’s model sailor is wearing a stylish, navy blue, short sleeve, t-shirt with the Visa-gb logo on the front and, give us a twirl, on the back in white print the words Empower, Encourage, Enjoy and the web address – what more could you want for just £15! It’s a steal, it’s a deal, contact Lorraine on info@visa-gb.org.uk to smarten up your wardrobe and cut a dash on the pontoon.  The shirts will be ready in time for the start of Sea Vision and if you need them posted they’ll be a small charge to cover post and packing.

Lots of sailing happening, all the details are on our website, we’ll be posting new film, pictures and reports of all our trips so check out our YouTube channel, don’t forget to hit the subscribe button so you don’t miss a thing, here’s a link: https://visa-gb.us20.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e8f3e24f0872905de422f8865&id=0f60cc6211&e=f4cf25171b

Here’s a little temptation – how do you fancy sailing in the glorious waters of Pembrokeshire? You do, well we may just be on the cusp of something shiny bright and new – more to follow!!

That’s all for now, stay safe,  keep up the good knotting!

Best wishes from all at Visa-gb
