Turn Up and Go resumes normal service

From Monday 19 October, we will resume the Turn-Up and Go service on the London Underground. This means we will provide physical assistance on request.

To help protect you and our staff, we will:

  1. provide staff with a disposable sleeve to wear on their arm when guiding you, giving them and you additional protection
  2. remove face coverings to speak with you at a 2-metre distance
  3. ask you and our staff, to wash or sanitise hands before and after contact

There may be some circumstances where we are not able to offer physical assistance, for example, if you are unable to wear a face covering. In this case, we would offer a free taxi service to the most convenient station so you can continue your journey.

Sight Loss Councils launched #StreetsForAll

Sight Loss Councils has launched  the Streets For All Campaign.

Sight Loss Councils has launched  the Streets For All Campaign.

Fast and silent e-scooters, cluttered pavements, shared space schemes and pavement parking are putting #VisuallyImpaired pedestrians at risk.

The campaign will raise awareness of the challenges and engage directly with local authorities and politicians to call for accessible #StreetsForAll.

Visually Impaired people should be able to enjoy our nation’s public spaces independently and safely. Share our film and help us call for #StreetsforAll. Find out more about the campaign and how to get involved here:  http://www.sightlosscouncils.org.uk/streetsforall

BBS New ” Active at Home” Virtual Program!

British Blind Sport adapts virtual delivery programme

British Blind Sport New ” Active at Home” Virtual Program!

As restrictions begin to differ vastly across the UK, British Blind Sport have decided to change their Workout Wednesday programme to something with more flexibility and permanence.

Rather than have one workout per week, BBS will now run a live workout week at the beginning of each month with a different inclusive class each night from Monday to Friday at 6 pm.

The timetable for the first live week of the Active At Home Programme is as follows;

Main BBS  Active at Home  Link

For more information, please contact BBS Participation Officer, David, on david@britishblindsport.org.uk or phone 01926 424247

Following these live workouts, BBS will release “follow up” exercise sessions for each different class so that participants can improve and build on their performance throughout the month – until the next live workout week.

BBS think this new programme will provide more structure to the online workout series, with the pre-recorded follow on sessions allowing participants to take part whenever they have time and motivating them to progress in their chosen classes.

One participant said, “I’m finding these workouts fantastic!  Currently, self-isolating and can’t get out to walk or run. These workouts are keeping me sane!”

Another said, “It’s nice to do exercise alongside other people (even virtually!) and have very motivating instructors who speak to the participants and correct our positions. It’s a great idea!”
